Bath treatments

Rapidly remove parasites with minimal residue left behind

Aqua Pharma offers a bath treatment for effective management of marine ectoparasites in salmon farms. The primary benefit of our concept is the rapid removal of parasites, including eggs of gravid females, without leaving any residue in the fish. This treatment is registered as a veterinary medicine, with full recording and monitoring of its use.

Our bath concept is suitable for both in-pen tarpaulin treatments, ensuring minimal fish handling, as well as for well boats.

VETERINARY MEDICINE

H₂O₂ based Parasite Treatments

For salmon, Aqua Pharma utilises H₂O₂ produced to veterinary medicinal standards, ensuring quality and safety. H₂O₂ is a substance that naturally occurs in the environment and breaks down into water and oxygen, contributing to eco-friendly water treatment.

Compared to other uses, the concentrations of H₂O₂ applied in aquaculture are very low. For example, concentrations used in dental applications are up to 6%, wound disinfection is at 3%, while aquaculture salmon treatment starts at 0.08% or 0.02% depending on the type of parasite and is further diluted post-treatment to approximately 0.001%.

RESPONSIBLE FISH FARMING

Continuous Research & Development

Aqua Pharma, jointly owned by Solvay and Aquatiq since 2019, has an integrated supply chain that ensures full traceability from production to point of use. Our treatment concept is registered for managing sea lice but is also effective against amoebic gill disease (AGD) and other health issues.

We are actively developing new solutions for emerging challenges such as winter wounds and the increasing occurrence of gill diseases.

Our technical team is continually refining our approach to further reduce the impact on fish and the environment.

TARPAULIN TREATMENT CONCEPT

Minimizing handling of fish

At Aqua Pharma, fish welfare is central to our work. In addition to wellboats, H₂O₂ can be used as a tarpaulin treatment within the pen, making it one of the gentlest solutions available. The tarpaulin method offers key benefits:

Reduced Stress for Fish:
Fish remain in their natural environment, reducing handling and stress, thereby supporting better welfare.

Minimal Environmental Impact:
The tarpaulin confines the treatment, limiting exposure to the surrounding environment.

Flexible Application:
Quick to deploy and adaptable, tarpaulin treatments accommodate varying parasite loads, water conditions, and farm requirements.

The animated video here below demonstrates how our concept works for a tarpaulin treatment in a salmon farm.

Recognition

Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)

We are a proud supporter of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), a non-profit organization founded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)and the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH). The ASC certifies farms that care for the environment and aims to stimulate retailers, food service companies and consumers to buy ASC labelled seafood products. In this context, the use of our products for the prevention and control of disease can contribute to sustainable aquaculture.

EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS LABEL

Our treatment concept was jointly developed with Solvay and holds the EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS LABEL. This award, granted in 2019 by the Solar Impulse Foundation, recognizes the technological feasibility, environmental and socio-economic benefits, and economic profitability of our sea lice removal concept.
