History
1970
First salmon farming in Norway (Pens in the sea)
Late 1980s
Still a relatively young business, aquaculture started with salmon and trout in the late 1980s. As the industry developed, investors sought to boost production by increasing the density of fish grown in cages. The more fish, however, the more rapid the spread of disease, which affects their health and growth if left untreated. Salmon production loses some $1 billion a year due to sea lice so there is a pressing need to ensure the health and viability of the fish we eat.
2009
Aquatiq Norway – experts in food safety – enter the scene, setting up Aqua Pharma. They developed a concept for safe and sustainable bath treatments for both tarpaulin and well boat treatments. Solvay supported product knowledge.
2010-2018
Other countries quickly follow, with operations set up in all the main salmon farming countries.
2019
In September 2019, a joint venture between Aquatiq and Solvay is created, and Aqua Pharma becomes Aqua Pharma Group. The joint venture will accelerate research initiatives and support the further growth of Aqua Pharma Group in new markets.
