Dosing Containers for Paramove® Sea Lice Treatments

Our sister company, Aqua Pharma, presented a challenge to us in 2012. Could we increase the capacity and efficacy of sea lice treatments with the use of Paramove®?

Our challenge was to make a dosing system, that was able to dose the right amount of Paramove® to achieve the best result possible.

At this stage, all treatments had been completed by wellboats, where the fish was pumped into the wells before being treated and put back in the ocean. The challenge we were presented with was to treat all fish whilst in the cage, so there would be no need for pumping and crowding.

Finding the solution together

The industry had already developed a tarpaulin that was mounted around the fishnets. This way, a closed system was created, suitable for treatment. Our challenge was to make a dosing system, that was able to dose the right amount of Paramove® to achieve the best result possible.

In this process, we created a team with multiple engineers and experts from all over our organisation. Together, we developed a fully automatic dosing system, that was built into a 20-foot container.

Core competencies involved in the project:

  • CAD drawings
  • Stainless Steel welding
  • Vacuum technique
  • HSE
  • Volume calculations
  • Engineering
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Automation
  • Regulation mechanics
  • Material technology

Outcomes

The result was overwhelming. Currently we have built 10 containers in total, in operation all over the Norwegian coastline. This concept has helped the aquaculture industry to control and maintain healthy levels of sea lice and AGD in their operations.
